The
Howard
Theatre
The
costs of the
Howard Theatre at Downing College, opened in March 2010,
have
now been
settled between the College and the builders, and agreed by
the
Trustees.
The total cost paid by the Foundation
for the
overall
Project,
including
irrecoverable VAT, was £7.8 million. The Trustees are
delighted
with
the overall result, and the extensive use being made by
academic
and
commercial organisations of the Howard Conference Centre
complex
at
Downing as a whole.
New Car
Park at
Downing College
In
December 2011
the Trustees entered into a Deed of Gift with the the
College
to fund
Phases 1-3 of a new car park to to the
rear of the
North and
West
ranges,
estimated cost £500,000 plus VAT, including a new pedestrian
gate
into the
Downing Site, which the College has generously offered to be
named
"The
Howard Gate".
The
Howard
Players
The
Downing
Dramatic Society has accepted long term sponsorship by the
Foundation,
which has approved its renaming as "The Howard Players".
2nd
International
Conference on Macular Carotenoids 9-12th
July 2013
The
Foundation
has agreed to sponsor this event, again to be held at Downing
College,
and an
Optometrists' Day Conference, all to be co-ordinated by Prof
John
Nolan,
Howard Fellow and Research Director, Macular Pigment Research
Group,
Chemical
& Life Sciences, Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland.

Study
on Effect of Carotenoids in the Eyes
The
Trustees hereby call for research projects to study the
effect of
carotenoids
in the eyes, final submissions to be made by noon GMT
Friday
13th
January 2012. However, other than the above
ongoing and committed
projects,
the Foundation currently has no budget to support
further research
or make
any new donations in the current Year.
