Starting in 2022, the Foundation has funded SNIPE (Sport Nutrition in Performance Exercise), a clinical trial to investigate the effects of Macular Carotenoids and Omega-3 supplementation on performance in precision sports. A paper describing the results has now been made available via the Frontiers in Nutrition website <- click on the link to access the paper.
The Foundation supported Parimala Sivaperuman from the High Performance Sport Institute (HPSI) in Singapore to conduct this research as part of her PhD at SETU (South East Technological University) in Ireland. The work was supervised by Professor John Nolan, the Howard Chair in Human Nutrition at the NRCI (Nutrition Research Centre Ireland), which is part of SETU.

Parimula says “What is particularly interesting about this research is its relevance across a range of disciplines, from sports nutrition and sports science to eye health and athlete performance.“
Professor Nolan says “The findings build on our previous research at NRCI and give us further insight into the potential role of these nutrients in supporting visual function.”
